Facts and feelings

Do I have a niche?

If you’re looking for someone with a niche, I’m afraid you’ve landed on the wrong portfolio.

In here, Mondays might kick off with a shiny 360 campaign for Starbucks. Tuesday? A 40-page white paper on blockchains (I still don’t know how I got through that one). By Wednesday, I’m writing something close to poetry for Prada. Maybe a tone of voice guide for Hinge in the evening. Thursday is for social captions that turn Dom Pérignon into metaphysics. And Friday? I’ll probably squeeze in a script for GetYourGuide and an activation for Boots. Or maybe it’s website copy for Nike. Who knows.

I didn’t set out to be a generalist. I just kept saying yes to things that sounded fun, strange, or different. If there’s a common thread, it’s that I like the variety of work, people, and places that come from not settling on anything in particular.

So if you don’t mind a bit of range, let’s talk about your niche.

Can I share more relevant samples?

Most definitely! What you see here is just a selection. I have a deck full of work that might be more relevant to your project. Tell me a bit about what you’re looking for, and I can send something more tailored to your industry, audience, tone, or medium.

Do I have a CV?

Absolutely! You can download it here. Though I must say that in my case, it’s difficult to keep a CV up to date as I can work on about 20 different projects a year. So if you’re looking for a more accurate representation of what I’ve been up to, I’d recommend checking out my Linkedin profile instead.

Can I do it yesterday?

Yes, but the math has to math. I work pretty fast, but within reason.

I was once hired by a major fashion retailer to watch and transcribe user test videos. Each video was about an hour long. The target? At least 40 a day. So 40 hours of footage in an 8-hour workday. To be fair someone said “It’s ok if you only do 30, it’s your first day” lol. Cut to me having a panic attack then quitting.

So yeah, I won’t do that.

Do I use em dashes?

I wish! I used to use them front, back, and centre, but AI was trained on people like me so now they seem to be a red flag for “not original.”

I still use the Oxford comma though. I have to draw the line somewhere.

Is French and French Canadian the same?

Absolutely not. I watch French Canadian films with subtitles.

My French works just fine in France, Belgium and Switzerland though.

As for English, I default to UK spelling, but I can flip to US if needed.

Do I have availability?

Just email me. I can’t always guarantee availability, but I’ll do my absolute best to make it work.

What’s my day rate?

It’s a Senior Copywriter’s day rate. For reference, my rate was £300 twelve years ago, so yes, it’s higher now. Feel free to get in touch for the actual figure.

What are my payment terms?

30 days from the delivery of the project.

How do I invoice?

I invoice through a Limited Company based in the UK. I have worked with businesses based in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, the US, the UAE, and Australia, and I’ve never had any issues getting paid.

That said, your company might have its own rules when working with UK-based freelancers. For example, I was one asked to provide proof of tax residency after I’d delivered the work, which can take up to three months to issue here. So if you’ll need anything from me admin-wise, just let me know before we get started.
